Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red, Blue, Time, Darkness, Sky

How to Beat Dark/Primal Dialga: You know how the key to beating Rayquaza in Mystery Dungeon 1 is Ice Beam? Beating Dark Dialga is easy if you know Dig. Why? Because it’s a very powerful move alone, and on top of that, it’s super effective. Plus you can dodge Dialga’s Roar of Time, which will do around 160 damage or so.

If you are one of these Pokemon: Charmander, Squirtle, Pikachu, Vulpix (Sky only), Meowth (Time/Darkness only), Eevee (Sky only), Cyndaquil, Totodile, Treecko, Torchic, Mudkip, Skitty, Chimchar, Piplup, or Riolu (Sky only), I would find a Dig TM (I don’t think you can buy them at the normal Kecleon market, though I’ve seen one in a dungeon store) and teach it to yourself. Once you’ve done that, ensure your partner knows a very strong if not super-effective move.

I have both Time and Darkness, and have restarted the latter nine times as all the starters, and have come up with two strategies to beat Dark Dialga.

Straighforward Way!:

Step 1. Somewhere in Temporal Tower (BEFORE you get to Dialga), equip you and your partner with either Zinc Bands (to survive Roar of Time), Power Bands (to boost Dig/a strong physical attack), or Special Bands (for a strong special attack). If you have better stuff like Pass Scarves, by all means use them, but those are basic ones.

Step 2. Set your partner’s Tactics to “Go after foes” and turn only their strongest attacks on.

Step 2. Line up and throw an X-Eye Seed (Darkness-only) at Dark Dialga. If you don’t have Darkness, use a Blinker Seed. (NOT a Sleep Seed!)

Step 3. Go get ‘im! =D Just keep using Dig and have your partner use their attack until our evil Dragon buddy snaps out of his Special Condition, then throw another one at him and keep attacking.

Step 4. Watch the game’s awesome ending.

FYI, Dark Dialga has ~3000 HP, I believe. But Dig does about 500. Good luck!

Long Way!

For the long way, you need to have Time version, and both Dig AND Swords Dance. Only Bulbasaur, Charmander, Totodile, Treecko, Torchic, Turtwig, Chimchar, and Riolu can learn Swords Dance by TM, but it’s a lot easier to find than Dig. Anyway, this is a pretty fun way to do it, but it does take a while.

Step 1. Hold a Power Band.

Step 2. Turn all your partner’s moves OFF.

Step 3. Upon entering battle scene, once you’re lined up, throw a Stun Seed and set your partner’s tactics to “Wait there” or “Get away from here”.

Step 4. Now keep using Swords Dance to your heart’s content! Once you’re maxxed out, go up to the Time Dragon alone and use your super-uber-pumped-up Dig!  It might not kill him, but hey, you’re invincible every other turn and your partner’s safe and sound far away (well, except for Roar of Time… see below).

Step 5. Yay! Enjoy the credits!

IF DIALGA USES ROAR OF TIME!! Unlike in Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, Roar of Time is an extremely potent move! It hits everyone in the room for a LOT of Dragon-type damage. But, as long as you can survive it, Dialga should be a piece of cake. Why? Because for two turns after using the move, the user is paused. Meaning skipping two turns. And that’s his weakness – two turns is enough time for you to eat an Oran Berry, throw a seed, then make your partner eat an Oran Berry. If you’re out of seeds or Oran Berries, just Dig and hope you have a Reviver Seed or two left. Another thing to note about Roar of Time is its low accuracy, especially when attacking female players (males have higher crit rates, females better evasiveness and accuracy). This has saved me many times.

How to Get Shaymin Sky Forme (Sky-only!):

After recruiting Shaymin by beating Sky Peak twice, return to the Shaymin Village. There should be a Shaymin near the pond that will give you a Gracidea flower. It’s a one-time use item that will change Shaymin’s Forme for the length of the dungeon or until a rest point. However, though you can only have one at a time, after you’ve used it you can return to the Shaymin Village to get another one.
Sky Forme doubles Shaymin’s speed, and it can also learn new moves that Land Forme doesn’t know.

How to Get Giratina Origin Forme (Sky-only!):

Once you’ve recruited Giratina, go to either Zero Island Center, Destiny Tower, Star Cave, Oblivion Forest, Treacherous Waters, Southern Islands, or Inferno Cave, and it will be in its Origin Forme – better at attack than defense, and able to levitate over water, chasms, or lava.
